I have written multiple short papers for my Lifespan Development course. During my writing process, I have used skills I learned through the English 110 learning objectives. I revise my assignments by making global revisions first, which is the larger changes. Then, I move to sentence-level errors such as grammatical and spelling errors. I, also, use theĀ Little SeagullĀ to work on citations and APA formats. In the sample below, I chose a passage where I focused on the correct uses for commas and included various transitional words and phrases. In addition, I experiment with using different sentence structures such as simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex.
The learning objectives from ENG 110 I have been incorporating in another course are:
- Demonstrate the ability to approach writing as a recursive process that requires substantial revision of drafts for content, organization, and clarity (global revision), as well as editing and proofreading (local revision).
- Control sentence-level error (grammar, punctuation, and spelling).
Sample of part of a paragraph from the paper Reflection of the “Babies” Movie:
“In Namibia, there was a few men featured, but it was not clear if any were the father of the baby. The men could have been working, hunting for food, or protecting the area. The baby was always with the mother or her siblings. The baby’s siblings would hold the newborn baby without supporting the head; they were not as delicate with the baby as the American and Japanese parents were. When the baby was a few months old, the baby would sit and play with her sibling. On the other hand, the Japanese father was present and interacted with the baby. During the movie, there was a scene where the Japanese father was talking on the phone while shaking a rattle in the air.”
