I found the prewriting activity very helpful when I began writing my first draft. I chose to do the colored sticky note method. This lead me to see how well my claims and thoughts were developed and supported. For a few of my claims, I noticed I only had one source of evidence to back up my claim. It also helped me when writing the first draft because the majority of my sources were already picked, so I did not have to skim the sources when I was trying to write and work on my own main argument and claims.
The final draft had many global and revisions, as well as sentence-level errors. I deleted paragraphs, moved sentences within paragraphs, and add paragraphs and sentences. The peer comments guided me in these structural changes. I noticed one of my paragraphs did not support my main argument when one of my peer reviewers pointed it out. Their questions also guided me in going more in-depth in my analysis. In addition to these structural changes, I focused on grammatical errors, spelling errors, and sentence structure. I reread my final draft over many times to try to catch these errors. In class, reviewing comma and apostrophe rules helped me when finalizing my paper.
This essay helped me detect patterns and trends of sentence-level errors. I spent a good amount of time looking at my comma error trends. Also, I think I am improving on critiquing my own and others’ work. I have been able to provide more beneficial feedback and incorporate others’ feedback into my writing when I think it is helpful. I feel confident in my final essay. I think I developed a well supported main argument with valid claims and sources. I was worried when I started writing that my evidence would not flow in my essay; however, I think the “lasagna” template helped me!
